It was a heartwarming sight to see over 100 Teignmouth residents out in force tonight to oppose the dumping of marine silt and sludge from Exmouth marina.
The Teignmouth Post and BBC Spotlight were present to record the event. Super banners were being brandished with slogans such as ‘we begrudge the sludge’ to ‘save our shores’. A whole host of people came out, from young children to the elderly, including local counsellors, and members of the rowing and surf life rescue clubs, all there to protect our beach and the reputation of our town.
The protest was held just before a meeting of local officials to discuss the granting of the licence to dispose waste at Sprey Point for the next 10 years. Let’s hope the powers that be heard our voices and consider a new and better solution for the disposal of the waste.
